As part of the Alumni Visit Series, TAR UMT recently visited DIYITAI PLUS, a dining concept brought to Kuala Lumpur by three enterprising TAR UMT alumni. The venture is led by Henry Ong Wei Hen, founder of DIYITAI and a graduate of the Bachelor of International Business, together with partners Andy Ooi Chong Liang (Bachelor of Finance and Investment) and Heng Shao Jie (Bachelor of International Business).
The DIYITAI brand has grown steadily over the years. From its beginnings in Penang with several outlets, the business expanded further into northern regions including Ipoh and Kedah. Today, the team has introduced DIYITAI PLUS in Kuala Lumpur, presenting a refreshed version of the brand with a more elevated dining experience.
Unlike the original concept, DIYITAI PLUS introduces a refined take on Taiwanese-inspired dishes, combining familiar flavours with improved ingredients and creative additions. Its menu stays true to traditional flavours while offering a more contemporary dining experience.
Interestingly, the DIYITAI journey first started in Setapak, but operations were paused during the MCO period. The founders then focused on building the brand in Penang before making their return to Kuala Lumpur with this new chapter. Their journey reflects determination, adaptability, and the entrepreneurial spirit shared by many TAR UMT alumni.
